First Day of Spring . .

Easter, Nature's Promise, Spring

First day of Spring, always evokes within me a sense of what is going on all around me in this particular season. Life is bursting forth, newness and freshness prevail. There are nests and burrows dug, from which new life emerges. The flowers seem to light up with pride each new day for having brought such joy back to life. And the days are lengthening again, which is a means for nature to display itself in all its finery and showiness against the backdrop of the sun for even longer!

580 I’ve considered long and hard which season of the four is my favorite, I can’t say as if I know for sure it is Spring. I do know that Spring holds so much joy during its daily parade of splendor, that I would surely say its my favorite while I’m in it! I’m enamored by the fluctuating weather, the promise of the warmth of Summer ahead; which then can be so distant on a cool, bleak and rainy morning. Everything seems to want to come to life again as the days grow longer, but it still seems a struggle and a process slow and steady! There are no guarantees with Summer lying in wait; but Spring surely knows its role as the interim force prevailing against whatever hold Winter still has on all of life. And so it persists in its daily show, bringing forth from the earth a variety of new creations and renewed life as well!

195567_orig With Easter just ahead, I am fully aware of the enduring and faithful promise of rebirth, renewal and resurrection – which enhances my joy! For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son to die so that whomever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). After a time then comes the promise and the gift of life reborn, renewed and resurrected! In each Spring we see that promise of His great love affirmed through all of creation!   Signature02

Contentment, the Gift We Give Ourselves . .

Contentment, Joy, Peace of Mind

Nature and I seem just as content with this day sans sunshine as we were yesterday with its abundance! Contentment is the gift we give ourselves in a world eager to try it and test it right out of us. It comes from a practice of making peace first within us so that no matter what happens or the conditions of any given day, we’re equipped to “handle” it before it handles us.

Best-Inspirational-quote

To have peace within means accepting that things aren’t always in our control, going our way or turning out as we had planned. Peacefulness is taking our hits and hurts in those moments we experience them, but not letting them take from us our hope for a time or especially forever. Learning how to make ourselves tranquil within enables us to vanquish the chaos and madness of the world; we’re able to silence the incessant noises of distraction and bother, as well as the ramblings of our own mind seeking control over what we cannot control or answers for questions which still remain. Contentment isn’t complacency, it isn’t ignorance or disregard. Contentment is learning and practicing the art of staying peacefully centered within, when the world is tilting or turning off balance externally.     content

We need to practice this each and every day if we ever hope to be peaceful in life! Without contentment in spite of this or that, our peaceful minds and hearts can easily wear down, fatigue or give way, becoming just a part of this swirling eddy, that nasty fray, those turbulent tides and these negative winds of change. To be content with life as it occurs takes commitment and a concerted effort when life is pushing all of our buttons; but without that centered tether-hold on our soul, we risk losing who we are and what we’re yet to become! As Paul writes in the Bible, in Philippians 4: 11- 12 . . 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.      Signature02

Tunnel Vision . . Life’s Blinders

Emotional Well-being, Joy, Positivity

Oh for the bother of tunnel vision, which often makes us see the minutia and the minute, rather than all the rest! For the tree in our path, we overlook the forest; missing moments, opportunities, blessings and joy. We place blinders over our own soul’s eyes, in essence negating our own ability to notice how much more we are blessed; instead choosing to heighten one horrendous negative to the point of giving it top billing over every other experience, blessing or joy we’ve felt.

imagesblinders Perhaps it’s because we get more sympathy for our pains; perhaps it is because we have made it our badge of honor for having overcome it. And that’s not to say we shouldn’t truly feel hurt, loss or pain when we experience it, we should! It is the only way to heal. But many forget to heal and let the emotions of one heartbreak, one horrific loss, one failing or one mistake conquer them for all time. We often focus on that one event in life which hurts us, one moment when things didn’t go our way; we define ourselves by one failing which truly must make us failures for all time! And in doing so, we then lose sight of how much more we have felt, accomplished, experienced, or received; before, during and after!

imagesblinders2 Life isn’t just that one moment in a dark tunnel or one situation leaving its permanent scar. It is a whole total entirety of experiences, achievements, failings, losses, glory, sadness, pain, joy, happiness, hurt, feelings, emotions, and dreams yet to be reached! Don’t let your life be forever defined by one moment, one event, one situation, one feeling, one emotion, one hurt or one failure! You are more than that. There is so much more behind you to recall, so much more to live today, and so much more yet to come! Signature02

Change, Faith, Self-Control

Looks like Wuthering Heights out there this morning, with this misty, foggy morning we’re having. I’m enjoying the changes Winter brings; one day there’s warmth and sunshine, and the next a wet few days of cloudy chill. Change is good, it keeps us from getting used to the way things are; potentially growing quite restless from the boredom, sameness and constancy of our habits, patterns and thoughts. We are prompted by change to flow with it and to make the necessary alterations within to accommodate it.   DSCI0440

Without change, I would suppose even those things we value the most would soon meld into the growing stagnancy of our minds, thoughts and lives; thus making us a bit less appreciative and grateful for them. Change keeps us on our toes in life; it forces us to restructure, rebuild, renew and create. Change is disrupting, as it often moves us from the familiar and beloved, or at least from the all-too-comfortable realms of our world. It represents often times a bit of chaos, and with that our fears, doubts and worries are stoked into flames which threaten to consume our lives entirely at the onset. But change can also be the catalyst for something more; change can be the exact thing we need to shake us from our sleep, to motivate and to entice us into action which then betters our life. Learning to change our perspective in regards to the constant changing circumstances of our lives is key to how enjoyable our lives become and how at peace we are throughout. 532358_4001177101920_1572559675_n_large

Not everyone is accepting of change, as it usually represents a disruption to the patterns, ways and comforting familiarities of life; but change happens nonetheless. The best way we can learn to flow through life is to view life as an unpredictable ride on changing currents, leading us to unknown and uncertain places. Life becomes less a struggle when we accept the very nature of its constantly-changing transformation, alteration and uncertainty. And it’s often just our own fears, doubts and worries which make us doubt our ability to ride the latest changing current. We have to take control of our emotions in regards to the uncertainty and possible fears which changes represent to us. When we learn to control our reactions and emotions about what happens to us in life from within, we gain immeasurable peace, comfort and joy in life! What we need to face the unseen coming with these changes is faith in what we can’t see, know or prove. Faith in God, and His assurances to us, brings us the courage to face the changes and challenges of life head on, rather than to dread them! Have faith in today, through today and in God! For changes will come . . Signature02

Beauty, Contentment, Gratitude

There was a touch of the brilliant color this morning in the sunrise which dominated last night’s amazing sunset here in the sky over Phoenix; a reminder of how much noticeable beauty exists in our world and in nature all around us. People often grow accustomed to missing beauty in the world around them, not because it is absent; but because they have turned their focus onto that which is opposite! (For a time or for life.) When we turn our focus to what it is we wish to see, assured we will see it in something, we will!   18228_468693166507348_877896573_n

So when I look at a rundown building, I don’t see the decay or the destruction and view it as ugliness. I see the history, I imagine the people who built it and their purpose. I look for the details which remain and notice the intricacy of metals, concrete, even in the paint under any graffiti! My eyes are used to my soul’s direction – to look for beauty, as it is surely there!  Beauty is the intrinsic reflection of something within the beholder, not something assured within what is beheld.

Possibly some drove through last night’s sunset without even paying it heed. Their eyes, mind, heart and soul had been closed to noticing such splendor because they had a bad day or perhaps they’re trapped in a negative period in life. So imagine how hard it would have been for them to proclaim other beauty all around them easily and readily beyond something so obvious and overt as last night’s sunset?  557832_495233400490260_2141051591_n

We have to give ourselves the gift of experiencing beauty, through our senses, with our hearts and in our minds. For the universe our Creator made is rich with beauty; in objects, in nature, in experiences and in other souls! It is in us as well! Look today for all the ways in which you see beauty and take the time to appreciate those beautiful gifts from God! Beauty opens the mind to what is positive and affirming in life. The riches of beauty we take notice of in life all around us help to soften our hearts; as reminders of how much is right with this world and with life itself! Failing to notice routinely strips the soul of much which brings joy, peace and contentment to the heart and mind!   acceptance 5

A soul determined to behold beauty will always see it regardless the imperfect state of things, or the location, or the object even! And when we accept beauty as readily as that, we tend to respect more of life around us for beauty’s sake; tending and caring for that which we know to be beautiful. Signature02

Joy, Peace and Contentment Are Mine!

Contentment, Happiness, Peace

When I give my attention to the still, silent world around me in the early pre-dawn hours, I hear the most beautiful and unique bird songs! When I open my window coverings in time to see the sun rising, sometimes I get the most vibrant show of color even for only a few fleeting moments. When I smile at a stranger, often I’m rewarded with one in return. When I await the few geese that fly over my house each morning, I feel a familiarity with their routines. When I water my plants, I take on a sense of caring which enables me to nurture and to tend to them. When I look out upon the landscape throughout the day, I am rewarded with the sights of animals and nature going about their business. When I go to church on Sunday, I find a communion with other joyful believers which feels like a community of which I am a part. When I seek, often I find! And when I spend my first few minutes of consciousness both morning and night in prayer, with His Word and in my purposeful gratitude, I can realize the world and my life not as one driven solely by despair, discomfort or disquietude. Instead, I am rewarded with the most amazing peace of mind, heart and body! 82   What a joy it is to know that no matter what comes my way, God has given me enough within to overcome what I must and to be grateful for what I have! Just by focusing my mind, my heart and spirit upon that which brings me joy, peace and contentment, I change my whole life’s perspective. Life is happening all around and often times, it is chaotically prescribed and dosed. But that doesn’t mean I have to dwell in the chaos or fill my soul with it! The choice as to what and to whom and as to how I give my attention, place my focus and expend my energy is always up to me! The world may deliver screaming, shrill distractions, it may bring moments of trauma, heartbreak or even the unimaginable; but the state of my mind and my heart is within my control. What matter fills my thoughts and my emotions is mine to decide. Signature02

Gratitude Bests Regret . .

WhatYouDoTodayAll too often we don’t know or remember to be grateful for something, some state of our being or some condition of our lives until it’s gone! Only then do we lament its passing, as we took that state or condition for granted just a bit. Perhaps we got so used to it, that we just assumed it would be that way easily or assuredly forever. It surely happens when people leave our lives; their loss leaves us with a gaping hole where they once filled our hearts, our minds and our presence. But it is also that way with circumstances, situations and conditions. We might find that one day we no longer are in the same job, or have the same house, or perhaps that our health suddenly takes a turn; and although these changes are not as hard upon us as the loss of a dear soul whom we love, we still are reminded by our lamenting what has changed. We should have probably felt more grateful for what we had when we had it! That is life.

Trying to live it without regret means we must try harder to live it now with gratitude!  An attitude of gratitude compels us to not only experience all that we can with expectancy, but to appreciate for some reason all that comes our way! Take, for instance, the woman who laments in some manner the body she has when she is younger, as so many young women are prone to do! She may not fully learn to love, accept and appreciate the body she has now, wanting some other physical characteristic which she doesn’t have. She may torment herself, wishing things could be different. She may wish to be thinner, taller, prettier, etc.; but in later years perhaps she will come to realize that those conditions were not so bad after all when she experiences changes in her body as a result of aging, illness or some accident. We all do that to some extent; but we are cheating ourselves out of today’s joy by not loving and appreciating things as they are!

Gratitude is our appreciation for all of our life; our consideration that we are blessed just as we are, the way things AttitudeOf-50are! Gratitude enfolds us and envelopes us in acceptance and surrender, to that which is and also to that which isn’t. It develops by way of purposeful habit into a state of contentment and peace; no matter the circumstances, situations, or conditions. Living in that manner surely enhances each day now; but it also lessens the chances for regretting what is past, as well as easing fears over what is yet to be. Our wholeness in being depends upon focusing upon the present with gratitude regardless the experience, conditions, circumstances and situations. It is only in gratitude that we can realize how much we already have within us and around us!

Its A Chance For Discovery…

ATear-25

Remember today as you go out into the world of discovery, that some souls might be fragile, heartbroken, saddened in grief, feeling fear or suffering in some other way. Inside, they may be impacted by events in which we haven’t any knowledge or awareness, nor for which we see any obvious signs externally. We might not know exactly what others are enduring, but we can be compassionate in our journey, kind in our steps thus giving others respect, patience, our love & our best first so that if they’re suffering in some way, we seem to them to be safe waters in their already stormy lives.

I remember the days right after my father died unexpectedly so many years ago . . I was feeling so vulnerable and broken that I felt I was operating at a different speed than the rest of the world, into which I had to venture out routinely, especially since it was fairly close to Christmas. But when I encountered – amidst the busy-ness and frenetic pace – kind people with loving hearts and gentle smiles, I felt somehow safer and less fragile.Being kind, compassionate, gentle, patient and loving isn’t always easy and sometimes seems in opposition to the events of our day and perhaps even our moods as a result, but we truly never know what others are enduring! We should endeavor to give the world our best for one day it might be us who needs theirs in return.                                                                         kindpeoplearebest

We should endeavor to give the world our best for one day it might be us who needs theirs in return. And we should try to see and to believe the best of others because we don’t know their full story. What might seem standoffish to us, may be someone trying to hold themselves together for the sake of not breaking down!s fragile. Being kind, compassionate, gentle, patient and loving isn’t always easy and sometimes seems in opposition to the events of our day and perhaps even our moods as a result, but we truly never know what others are enduring!

fruit-of-the-spirit_25These are the fruits of our spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, nine things in which we already are amply endowed, may we practice them today and everyday when we meet one another as strangers or even as friends: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Flexing All Your Muscles….

FruitMusclesPeople are capable of amazing & wondrous things in life . . it just takes a heart braced in awareness of what fruits lie within! Inside each one of us are the fruits of our spirit . . nine essential qualities or traits which we already have in ample supply, which merely require our awareness & our determined effort to flex like muscles. We might not use them, they might turn to mush, but they’re there regardless, just like other physical, fleshy muscles in our bodies. They’re just as real to a human as flesh & bone. We prove to ourselves that when we use our flesh-muscles, when we practice with them, strengthening them, purposefully flexing them, we make our bodies healthier & better able to cope with life. So if we do the same with the fruits of our spirit, we in fact make those traits stronger in turn, preparing us for life in this world filled with people, giving us the much-needed support & help to face life head-on! Flex all your muscles, those of flesh & those of fruit, learn to use what you have or lose the potential for what you might be! Developing the fruits of your spirit truly is just a disciplined effort to be a better human being . . one who lives in the world wearing their heart as a banner & exuding the following essential traits:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The fruits of your spirit are nine muscles within you which empower a lifetime of amazing gifts!

The Storm Mindset . . .

The mindset of the storm. girlinstormSometimes what happens in the world seems overwhelming, the losses we endure, the infliction of such immense hardship, the problems piling on people like weights pulling them under water. Humans can feel so fragile & so broken at times, that they wonder if breaking further & being broken is a constant state. When hope wanes & eventually dies within us, we have nothing in which to bolster our reason for being.
Hope is what sustains us even through the unimaginable. We must hold on to our hope, having faith that at some point ahead of us, even around a bend, there is a new day waiting which does promise smiles & an abundance of light. Too many of us are so lost in the dark storms of tumultuous times, grief or uncertainty for which we can’t imagine a passing, that we relegate ourselves to the mindset of the storm always. Then we don’t even notice that the “everyday” has returned, our lives would be better, our skies are brighter .  We are still, however,  in the storm mindset, our feelings keeping us there almost like a prisoner. When you have a sense that your hope is waning or grasping its last breath, please find the spark within you that calls it back! Life will often bring many storms to weather, but they do eventually pass. Don’t make one storm from now or before your constant sky! Please remember that like all things, bad days, problems, turmoils & upsets do pass! Brighter days are always just ahead, perhaps around an unseen bend, but they’re coming! Hope within you must be stoked & coaxed like a fire, you might have to add kindling & allow it to surge again. You shouldn’t have to relight it though, as hope does always live within you if you just keep the embers from dying in your heart!
ButterFly-25
This is dedicated to those who struggle with those emotions they just cannot seem to elude . . for all of you who make judgments based on a moment of feeling something now which will pass if you just ride it out! Life is a precious gift, hope is what allows our faith to endure all while we wait, endure, persist & to prosper! Let your hope take you with faith into this new day, resting assured that you will find something in which to be thankful in this gift of life! You’re the one who determines which emotions you ride to shore, after all!
